The determiner is an important noun modifier which introduces And provides contest to a noun,often in terms of quantity and possession.in other words,a determiner is used to modify a noun.

DETERMINERS IN ENGLISH;
There are many different determiners in English.
1.ARTICLE DETERMINER: they are among the most common of the determiner. 'A', 'AN' and 'the' express the definiteness and specificity of a noun.for example, "the" is a definite article, meaning the person using the word is reffering to a specific one.on the other hand, "A" or "AN" are the indefinite articles. E.G;
1."THE dog is barking too loudly"
2.A student returned THE book

2.DEMONSTRATIVE DETERMINER:demonstratives such as THIS,THAT,THOSE and THESE, require a frame of reference in which an individual can point out the entities referred to by a speaker or a writer.
*do you want THIS piece of chicken?
*are THESE shoes?

There are many other types of determiners like QUANTIFIER determiner, POSSESSIVE determiner .for instance, cardinal numbers,the numbers that are written out in English are also included.

Determiners are generally split into two groups;
Definite and indefinite determiner

FUNCTION;
1.they may be used to demonstrate or define something or someone.
2.they state the differences between nouns.

ENGLISH GRAMMAR(NOUNS AND NOUN PHRASE)

What is english grammar?

it is the way in which meanings are encoded into wording in the english language including the structure of words,phrases,clauses and sentences.

there are eight parts of speech which are commonly distinguished in english :

1.nouns
2.determiners
3.pronouns
4.verbs
5.adjectives
6.adverbs
7.prepositions
8.conjuctions....

We are going to talk about each of them and ask questions if you don't understand just ask questions.

NOUNS AND NOUN PHRASE

A noun is a word that functions as the name of some specific thing or set of things,such as living creatures,objects,places or things.In simple term,a noun is the name of a person,place or thing.Example of nouns are:woman,museum,chair,dog,table,zoo e.t.c..

CLASSIFICATION OF NOUNS
THere are 9 classification of nouns namely;
1.proper nouns
2.common nouns
3.countable nouns
4.uncountable nouns
5.collective nouns
6.concrete nouns
7.abstract nouns
8.alienable nouns
9.inalienable nouns

1.PROPER NOUN:It is a noun representing unique entities such as india,jupiter,pegasus,
 or confucius
2.COMMON NOUN:Is a noun which describes a class of entity such as country,animal,planet or person.
3.COUNTABLE NOUN:they are common nouns that can take a plural,can combine with numerals or counting quantities (e.g one,two,every,most) and can take an indefinite article such as a or an.example are chair,nose and occassion.
4.UNCOUNTABLE NOUN:it differs from countable nouns.they cannot take plural or combine with numbers words or the above type of quantifiers.for example,it is not possible to refer to a furniture or three furnitures.this is true even though the pieces of furniture compromising furniture could be counted.so,the distinction between mass and count nouns should not be made in terms of what sort of things the nouns refer to,but rather in terms of how the nouns present these entities.
5.COLLECTIVE NOUNS:are nouns that refer to groups consisting of more than one individual or entity.E.g committee, government and police.
6.CONCRETE NOUNS:refer to physical entities that can,in principle at least be observed by at least one of the senses.
7.ABSTRACT NOUNS:refer to abstract object;that is,ideas or concepts (such as justice or hatred).
8.ALIENABLE NOUNS:is something that does not belong to a person indefinitely e.g tree,road etc...
9.INALIENABLE NOUN:is something that is possessed definitely.e.g father,mother,shadow,hair...

NOUN PHRASE
A noun phrase is a phrase based on a noun,pronoun or other noun like word optionally accompanied by modifiers such as determiners and adjectives.
FUNCTIONS OF NOUN PHRASE
1.Subject of a verb
2.object of a verb
3.complement of a verb or preposition.

E.G:"The black cat sat on a dear friend of mine" the noun phrase "the black cat " serves as the subject and the noun phrase"a dear friend of mine " serves as the complement of the preposition "on"......
